He also worked for seven years in the fitness industry as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.
Bruce is an accomplished and sought-after speaker and has presented at several national conferences including the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT) and many regional conferences for massage, bodywork and complementary health organisations. He is a regular columnist on Somatics for Mostly Massage Magazine in Australia and has been a trainer with the Somatics College of Body Oriented Psychotherapy in Sydney and the Somatic Psychotherapy Institute of Australia. Bruce also supervises bodywork and somatic therapists in Australia and New Zealand.
Bruce's approach to working with the body is to support and facilitate the natural healing processes that we all possess. Caring and embodied contact assists the innate balancing and regulating capacity of the body and the focus of his work is to remind the body of these regulating mechanisms. In the presence of the opportunity for change the body is more likely to embrace new and more functional postures and alignment. This is the ultimate self empowerment: the feeling of greater structural support and ease, increased confidence and a deep experience of wellbeing.
